Como grupo español de rescate de galgos y elevando la voz en nombre de todos aquellos galgos que han sufrido el abandono y la tortura en nuestro país, 
nos vemos obligados a expresar en estas líneas, nuestro más profundo agradecimiento a la tarea que desde hace varios años viene realizando la organización inglesa, Greyhound in Need, (GIN) en España.
Deseamos mencionar especialmente a Anne Finch, su presidenta y fundadora, como figura clave y símbolo internacional de compromiso para elevar la dignidad del galgo y greyhound. De su ardua y encomiable labor durante 17 años, unida a su espíritu de sacrificio, se han beneficiado centenares de galgos de Irlanda, Italia y España.
Desde que comenzó su misión en nuestro país en 1991, en Mallorca, para investigar los malos tratos de los galgos del canódromo, y conocedora ya en esa época de la realidad española en lo que atañe a los abusos y explotación de esta raza, extendió su misión por toda la península de Norte a Sur para remediar a las víctimas de las tragedias que asolaban gran parte del territorio español, gracias al despliegue de un intenso trabajo por parte de Anne, salieron a la luz los ahorcamientos y otros actos bárbaros que se infligían sistemáticamente a estos perros y que hasta entonces habían permanecido en el silencio ante la opinión pública.
Fue un hito importante, que con ocasión de la clausura del canódromo de Mallorca, hazaña titánica que evitó sufrimientos futuros, buscó una solución feliz a cientos de galgos y greyhound desechados; poco después al trasladar su actividad a un foco de miseria galguera como es la zona de Castilla-León, eligió Medina del Campo, donde su magnífica labor desarrollada tanto en cuantiosas aportaciones materiales, como con dedicación personal, convirtió a su modesto refugio municipal, (Scooby) en una organización conocida en ámbito nacional y fuera de nuestras fronteras, permitiendo así que fluyeran ayudas internacionales hacía él para salvar los galgos allí recogidos. Fue ahí donde la conocimos, allá en el año 1999,
cuando fuimos a llevar una galga de los suburbios marginales de la capital, rescatada por nosotros en malas condiciones y a la que habíamos brindado cuidados y cobijo; lamentablemente no nos la admitieron en los refugios a los que acudimos en Madrid, y decidimos que cayera bajo su protección porque ya teníamos referencias maravillosas de su tarea. Anne estaba "a pie de obra" intentando salvar a un galgo maltrecho que se debatía entre la vida y la muerte.
No olvidemos que también recibieron su ayuda galgos retirados del canódromo de Barcelona para los que gestionó la acogida en familias europeas y la misma suerte tuvieron numerosos galgos del refugio de Perrotel en Campello, Alicante.
Hoy en día, después de los años, habiendo superado sentimientos de decepción y contrariedades, Anne, transforma misteriosamente su gran amor a estas angelicales criaturas en energía de lucha y mantiene la fuerza
continua que la permite estar en la brecha infatigablemente, sensibilizada por el sufrimiento de tantos galgos desamparados. Siempre generosa y dispuesta continua su colaboración activa con asociaciones españolas para evitar el infierno de los galgos y procurarles una vida digna en lugar de abandonarlos a un sacrificio inmerecido.
Como ejemplo de ello, en esta última temporada, GIN ha impulsado campañas internacionales de ayuda, lo que ha permitido a nuestro grupo salvar la vida y que sean adoptados 43 galgos que rescatamos en Madrid cuyo destino irremediable era la muerte, sin contar con otros tantos que han sido salvados por otros grupos en Cataluña (Vic) y en Cadiz.
A todo ello hay que añadir la generosidad de tantas intervenciones puntuales de ayuda que GIN, bien directamente o canalizando recursos de otras asociaciones europeas o americanas, ha facilitado a numerosos refugios y organizaciones españolas: adopciones, transporte, envío de medicinas, material sanitario, o de otro tipo, aportaciones económicas etc.
Aparte de toda esta trayectoria para mejorar la existencia material de los galgos, también tenemos que agradecer a GIN, 
y a Anne particularmente, el incesante esfuerzo que, como nadie, viene desarrollando para despertar las conciencias de las autoridades nacionales e internacionales a través de llamamientos, comunicados, artículos, videos, publicación de libros etc, y denunciar públicamente los sucesos luctuosos de los galgos españoles. Esto sirvió para abrir los ojos a la comunidad animalista internacional que se conmovió ante los episodios de sufrimiento que soportaba esta raza canina en España, unas víctimas más a añadir en este país europeo, universalmente conocido por su "crueldad legal" hacia los animales, léase toros y otras muchas fiestas ancestrales con torturas indescriptibles sobre los animales, que tienen su razón de ser en la vesania de un populacho de bajo nivel cultural que lo fomenta como diversión-tradición.
Anne, pionera en España de la protección del galgo, a través de sus
iniciativas y sus campañas para acoger a los galgos como perfectos animales de compañía al igual que otras razas, nos enseñó una lección que felizmente hemos aprendido y ha servido para concienciar a muchos españoles/as, y extranjeros/as, de la situación crítica de los galgos en nuestro país. Es justo reconocer, que a raíz de su labor y siguiendo su voz y su ejemplo, han surgido en estos últimos años muchos grupos españoles que nunca habían existido, para prestar especial dedicación a la protección y salvaguarda del "galgo".
También hay que resaltar el gran servicio a la causa que ha supuesto la proyección internacional a la que GIN, desde sus principios, elevó los acontecimientos de galgos condenados al horror. Ello ha propiciado que se hayan ido sumando solidaridades posteriores de muchos grupos extranjeros y sobre todo europeos, que atraídos por el trabajo de Anne, como por un imán, y alentados por su testimonio, comenzaron a trabajar para buscar adopciones y ennoblecer la vida del galgo español.
Así del entusiasmo que Anne insufló a su misión, GIN creó una escuela y siguiendo su doctrina y método de trabajo se erigieron como grupos independientes algunos de los que comenzaron siendo miembros colaboradores de GIN; ello facilitaba la penetrabilidad y expansión del trabajo geográficamente en aras de fomentar la acogida de los galgos españoles "sin hogar". Este fue el caso de Mireille Broethers y Resy Haanan con Greyhound in Nood, de Bélgica y Holanda y Greyhound Compasión de Inglaterra. También cabe destacar otros grupos de protección europeos creados en la estela del trabajo de GIN, como Greyhounds Rescue en Bélgica o Levriers en Detresse en Francia y otros en Alemania, Suiza y Austria, sin contar un buen número de asociaciones de USA, que colaboran estrecha y eficazmente con el trabajo de Anne.
Todo ello ha dado sus frutos:
a).-Disminución paulatina del ahorcamiento y las muertes trágicas de galgos abandonados que constituían escenas cotidianas después de la temporada de caza hasta hace bien poco.
b).-Concienciación de la población española hacia esta barbarie y aumento de la sensibilidad que se manifiesta en la disposición de cada vez más grupos nacionales a luchar por la protección del galgo. 
c).-Aceptación del status del galgo como "animal de compañía" que ha supuesto la felicidad para cientos de galgos retirados o maltratados al ser acogidos en hogares familiares.
No obstante debemos ser realistas, si bien estos hechos de barbarie son menos frecuentes, como contrapartida, han aumentado sensiblemente los abandonos "legales" o "civilizados",- en perreras municipales o en refugios-, incluso afortunadamente, hay cazadores que se van sensibilizando y acceden a guardarlos por algún tiempo, antes de deshacerse de ellos definitivamente, cuando se les promete a corto plazo casa de adopción o acogida por un grupo de protección animal.
SITUACION ACTUAL
La crianza masiva de galgos para la caza o la competición aun persiste y como los "toros"es difícil erradicarlo del folclore español. Los galgos se consideran "máquinas de las que se espera un rendimiento" (un galguero madrileño dixit). 
De ahí, que son miles de galgos los que en el centro y sur de España se desechan de una forma u otra cada año, bien por que ya no desarrollan su actividad como su dueño-explotador desea o bien porque si antaño fueron extraordinarios ya son viejos, deambulan por carreteras o núcleos urbanos, aparecen maltratados o bien acaban en las perreras municipales (¡!El mejor de estos fines¡!).
En este escenario en el que actualmente nos encontramos, agradecemos una vez más a GIN, que a través de Anne, siga haciendo campañas para REDUCIR LA CRIA MASIVA Y CON ELLO EL POSTERIOR ABANDONO, y siga ayudando de una manera u otra y movilizando todos los medios a su alcance para que se salven el mayor número de galgos posibles en España evitando su abandono o aniquilación.

AUNQUE NUNCA BUSCABAS LA GLORIA, ESTAS ESPIRITUALES CRIATURAS TE OFRECERAN SU PARAÍSO ETERNO - OTRAS YA SON ESTRELLAS RUTILANTES DEL FIRMAMENTO QUE TE ALUMBRAN LAS NOCHES DE LA VIDA.
En nombre de estos tiernos animales cuya sola presencia y contemplación conmueve las profundidades de nuestra alma, deseamos extender nuestra gratitud a todas aquellas personas y asociaciones que a través de GIN y su equipo han contribuido a la felicidad de tantísimos galguitos españoles.

As a Spanish Rescue Group of greyhounds and speaking on behalf of all those "galgos" who have suffered abandonment and torture in our country we feel obliged to express in these lines our most profound gratitude for the task that the English organisation Greyhound in Need (GIN) has been doing since long in Spain.
We would especially desire to mention Anne Finch, its president and founder, as a key figure and international symbol of compromise to elevate the dignity of the "galgo" and greyhound. Hundreds of greyhounds in Ireland, Italy and Spain have benefitted from her arduous and praiseworthy labour during 17 years, united to her spirit of sacrifice.
Since she commenced her mission in our country in Mallorca in 1991, to investigate the bad treatment of the greyhounds of the canodrome and already knowing, in that moment in time, the Spanish reality as regards the abuse and exploitation of this breed, she extended her mission in the whole peninsula, from north to south in order to assist the victims of the tragedies that ravaged a great part of Spanish territory. Thanks to this display of intense work on Anne's behalf, the hangings and other barbaric acts that were systematically inflicted on these dogs and that, until then, had remained in silence before public opinion, came to light.
An important landmark was the occasion of the closure of the canodrome of Mallorca, a titanic exploit that avoided future sufferings and searched for a happy solution for hundreds of forsaken galgos and greyhounds.A short time after, she transferred her activity to a focus of galgo misery as is the zone of Castile-Leon. She chose Medina del Campo - where her magnificent labour developed as much in the material contributions as in personal dedication. She converted that modest municipal refuge "Scooby", founded by Angeles Velasco Angulo, in 1987, an extraordinary Medinian great woman- into an organisation well known throughout the whole country and across the frontier thus permitting that international aid flowed towards it, in order to save the galgos sheltered there. It was there where we met her. In 1999 (in the beginnings of our association) when we went to this place to take a "galga", rescued by us in the marginal suburbs of the capital in bad conditions, and to which we had given primary care and shelter. Unfortunately, they did not admit her in the refuges to which we called in Madrid so we decided that she should fall below Anne's protection because we already had marvellous references of her task. We witnessed Anne working hard trying to save a greyhound in a bad state that debated between life and death.
We do not forget that retired galgos from the canodrome of Barcelona also received her help by being rehomed in European families. A great number of greyhounds of the refuge of Perrotel in Campello, Alicante had the same luck.
Today, after years, having overcome feelings of deception and obstacles, Anne mysteriously transforms her great love for these angelic creatures into fighting energy and maintains the continuous strength that permits her to be intiringly in the breach, sensibilised by the suffering of so many abandoned greyhounds. Always generous and willing to continue her active collaboration with Spanish associations in order to avoid the hell of galgos and procure a decent life for them instead of abandoning them to an undeserved sacrifice.
As an example of this, in this last season, (January-May 2003) GIN has promoted international Campaigns of help which have made possible for us to save the lives and rehome 43 greyhounds that we rescued in Madrid whose irremediable destiny was death. This without counting so many others which with GIN´s financial help have been saved by other groups in Catalonia (Vic) and in Cadiz.
To all of this we have to add the generosity of so many specific interventions of help that GIN, whether directly or channelling resources of other European or American associations, has facilitated to numerous refuges and Spanish organisations: adoptions, transport, shipment, sending medicines, sanitary material, or of another type - economic contributions, etc.
Apart from all this trajectory to improve the material existence of the greyhounds we also want to be grateful to GIN and to Anne particularly, for the unceasing effort that, as no-one, she has been unfolding in order to awaken the consciences of national and international authorities through appeals, communications, articles, videos, publications of books, etc. And publicly denouncing the sorrowful occurrences of the Spanish greyhounds.This served to open the eyes of the international animal loving community that was so moved before the episodes of suffering that this canine breed supported in Spain. Some more victims to add to the history of this European country, universally known for its "legal cruelty" towards animals -read "bulls" and many other ancestral feasts with undescribable tortures over animals, that have their reason for being in the rage of a populace of a low cultural level that foments it as a diversion/tradition.
Anne, a pioneer in Spain of the protection of the greyhound, through her initiatives and her campaigns to have greyhounds taken in as perfect pets, the same as other breeds, taught us a lesson that happily we have learnt and which has served to make many Spaniards and foreigners aware of the critical situation of the greyhounds in our country. It is fair to recognize that, immediately after her work and following her voice and her example, many Spanish groups have arisen in the last few years that had never existed before, in order to pay special dedication to the protection and safeguard of the "galgos".
Also, the great service to the cause that international projection given by GIN from the beginning to the scenarios of greyhounds condemned to horror, has to stand out. This has propiciated that many groups from abroad, mainly European, followed suit, attracted by Anne's work as if by a magnet, and inspired by her testimony, successfully began to be conscious of the plight of the Spanish galgo and since then have been working in order to look for adoptions and to ennoble the life of this creature as a pet.
Thus, from the enthusiasm that Anne insuflated in her mission GIN created a "school" and following her doctrine and method of work, independent groups arose whose members were ex- members of GIN; this facilitated the penetrability and expansion of the work geographically, with the objective of encouraging the taking in as many as possible Spanish homeless greyhounds. This was the case of Mireille Broethers and Resy Haanan with Greyhound in Nood, of Belgium and Holland and Greyhound Compassion of England. Also other European protection groups stand out, created in the wake of the work of GIN like Greyhouds Rescue in Belgium or Levriers en Detresse in France and others in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, not counting a good number of associations in the U.S.A. that collaborate closely and efficiently with Anne's work.
All that has born its fruits:
(a) a slow diminuition of hanging and tragic deaths of abandoned greyhouds that constituted a daily scene after the hunting season until a short time ago.
(b) The making conscience of the Spanish population towards this barbarity and an increase of sensibility manifested in the disposition of increasingly more national groups to fight for the protection of the galgo.
(c) Acceptance of the status of the greyhound as a pet that has supposed happiness for hundreds of retired or badly treated greyhounds on being taken in by family homes.
However, we must be realistic, if on the one hand these acts of barbarity are less frequent, as a counterpart the "legal" or "civilised" abandonment has increased significantly - in municipal dog pounds or in refuges - even, fortunately there are hunters that are becoming more sensitive and agree to keep their greyhounds for some time before getting rid of them definitely - when they are promised within a short time a house of adoption or that they will be taken in by an animal protection group.
TODAY´S SITUATION
Massive breeding of greyhounds for hunting or competition still persists and, as with the bullfight, it is difficult to erradicate it from Spanish Folk Lore. Greyhounds are considered "machines from which an output is expected". (A Madrid greyhound owner dixit) so there are thousands of galgos rejected in the centre and south of Spain in one way or another each year, either because they do not perform their activity as its owner-exploiter desires or because if before they used to be extraordinary they are not any longer because their old age. Consequently, you can see them wandering along roads or urban nucleos, appearing badly treated or end up in the municipal pounds "Death Corridors" as we like to put it . (The best of all finals to their life !)
In this scene - in which we presently find ourselves, we are grateful once again to GIN, which through Anne, continues making campaigns to REDUCE MASSIVE BREEDING AND WITH IT THE FOLLOWING ABANDONMENT and continues helping in many ways, and movilizing all the means within its reach so that the greatest number possible of greyhounds are saved in Spain, avoiding their abandonment or aniquilation.
THANKS TO THE TEAM OF GIN IN THE NAME OF ALL THE GALGOS THAT YOU HAVE SAVED AND IN OUR NAME FOR YOUR UNVALUABLE CONTRIBUTION.
THANKS, ANNE, FOR YOUR CONTINUOUS DEVOTION WITHOUT WEAKENING IN SPITE OF THE OBSTACLES AND INCOMPREHENSION THAT YOU HAVE FOUND IN YOUR WAY.
ALTHOUGH YOU NEVER LOOKED FOR GLORY, THESE SPIRITUAL CREATURES WILL OFFER YOU THEIR ETERNAL PARADISE - OTHERS ARE ALREADY RUTILANT STARS IN THE FIRMAMENT THAT ILLUMINATE THE NIGHTS OF LIFE FOR YOU.
In the name of these tender animals whose sole presence and contemplation move the depths of our soul, we desire to extend our gratitude to all those people and associations that, through GIN and its team, have contributed to the happiness of so many Spanish "galgos".
